Nurse’s Joey® is simply a professionally designed organised pocket! It enables you to carry a few little things on you to save running around every time you need something small!

In consultation with the healthcare industry and the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) we are pleased to release a PINK version of the Nurse’s Joey® pouch to help raise funds for the cause!! We’re donating 5% of the sales to NBCF.

1 in 8 women in Australia will be diagnosed with breast cancer before the age of 85 (AIHW). This will affect all of us as family, friends, victims or carers!   PINK Nurse’s Joey® gives you and me a chance to make a difference by raising awareness and funds.

Let’s do what we can now to find ANSWERS and sponsor HOPE!

Please consider how you can get involved with our PINK Nurse’s Joey® campaign.

For hard copies of printed posters, please contact wendy@nursesheart.com or call us on 03 9874 4135 (Australia).

Of course, each pouch is slightly different depending on the cut of the fabric and color shade may vary with some computer screens. But be rest assured, everyone is loving their PINK Joey®.

Nurse’s Joey®   - Is the original and most comprehensive nurse 'Organiser' product range on the market, a s seen on the ABC's "New Inventors" in 2005 and 2007.  Co-launched and also sold by Australia's Peak, National Professional Organisation, the Royal College of Nursing, Australia (RCNA) for the last five years.

Nurse’s Joey® is designed for the time constrained nurse or doctor to carry, frequently used small, medical items whilst maintaining a professional image.  Time and Motion Studies show nurses walk an average of 1 mile EVERY hour (1.6km) and spend only 30% of their time by the bedside. Saving just 10 minutes a day, is the equivalent gain of one week per year for a full time nurse.

Nurse’s Joey®  -   is designed, manufactured and sold by a clinical nurse.  All Australian owned. All product supplied by our Australian manufacturor in Regional Victoria. We are absolutely committed to Best Practice, Quality and support Australian Industry.

The Nurse's Joey® range is deliberately made out of Uniform material to suggest it's part of the uniform and regular washing applies. We invest in uniform quality fabric (washable & durable) because we think it is important to encourage daily washing.  The pouches were never meant to replace leather or cheap nylon 'travel belts' for many professional reasons.   Daily emptying and washing should be encouraged by hospitals.  Each pouch comes with washing instructions to support Hospital Management in this endevour.  They fit up to 110cm on hips/waist.  Extension pieces available (extra 15cm per extension) for larger sizes.

The large (see picture on the left) has 16 pockets and comes in a standard Navy,   measuring approximately 21 x 31cm (length x width) and is ideal for mobility devices such as PDA's. Navy blue color is our standard.  $49.50 Aus plus postage.

CORPORATE LOGOS:- (either sized pouch) For corporates, we can add printed or embroided logos and/or tailor pouches to compliment corporate image.  Call Wendy Miles on 0400 077 891 to discuss the options.

Nurse’s Joey™ - What is it? Benefits

Former Melbourne nurse, Wendy Miles has developed a handy 16-pocket utility pouch for the acute med/surgical nurse to carry essential implements, instruments and products throughout the working day. The one size fits most pouch (larger available on request), is washable to make sure that it does not pose an infection risk – sits flat across the abdomen & is simply buckled at the waste or hips. For time constrained nurses the pouch gives quick & easy access to essential, frequently used medical items and knowledge right at the point of care! This minimises the number of time consuming trips to and from treatment and store rooms!! This increases the time available to spend by the patient bedside!

If a full-time nurse saves just 10minutes a day, this is reducing her/his walking requirements by a week per year! This leaves more time for patient care! Studies (2004) show happier, chatty nurses led to increased patient recovery and higher hospital turnover! Time is the key! Nurse’s Joey™ helps nurses find/gain that time!

Nurse’s Joey™ is a nurse organiser! It’s one way of streamlining nurse activities and improving our time management to make more time available in our day. At the same time it addresses infection control, OH&S, image, workflow and use of technology issues we find in hospitals today.

ITEMS CARRIED: may vary according to the speciality and nurse’s professional choice. The nurse will stock as they see fit. However, it is to be kept clean, compact and organised. We do NOT encourage the nurse to “stuff it full”!

Example items include: scissors, artery forceps, sterile packages, swabs, tape, medication keys, neurological torch, pens, analgesics, tape measure, pill cutter, calculator, nursing notes, Australian Nurses Diary (with 11 foreign language nurse/patient phrases), nurse abbreviations, formulas) etc.

On a personal level nurses may carry reading glasses, money, mobile, tissues, breath freshener etc.

For the efficiency minded nurse, it also includes a specially designed pocket that separates and protects a personal pocket computer (PDA) to run her/his own software applications such a MIMS (Please see”Nurses Tool Up With Technology” section).  Discounted MIMS subscriptions for NursesHeart customers coming soon!!

TIME MANAGEMENT - Carry frequently used medical items and knowledge to the bedside. Designer pockets for quick, easy systematic access to items. Reduce your walk-LOAD, save time, decrease interruptions and improve your workflow! This is the key to streamlining nurse activities and improved organisation!

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY - Remove scissors, artery forceps and pens from around your neck on lanyards or in your pockets.  Clean them up off public bench-tops and from BP baskets. Keep them safely in your Nurse’s Joey™ pouch!  Do not display sharp objects if nursing patients with impaired lucidity (see wearing instructions) and us the large pocket to hide them in the case of an emergency. Follow the ‘wearing instructions that comes with every pouch.

INFECTION CONTROL – Stop storing sterile packaged items & adhesive tapes in your pockets along side ‘unclean’ pens, notes, tissues, money etc (this potentially comprises the sterile packaging).  Place them in dedicated pockets (or on clip) in your pouch and remove daily.  Wash your Nurse's Joey in a delicates bag with your uniform.  That's why  it's made of uniform material!

IMAGE – Consider giving up aprons (outdated image) and unwashable bum-bags that you rummage through at the patient bedside to find what you want.  Stop stuffing pockets full which adds to your hip line and damages packaging. Wear pants without pockets and at the same time protect patient confidentiality by placing notes in the Nurse’s Joey™ .

NURSES “TOOL UP WITH TECHNOLOGY” –  30% discount on MIMS subscriptions for nurses who buy a Nurse's Joey(TM) or Nurse's Joey(TM) Junior (see below)!  This means that you can have an electronic version of easy to use, MIMS at the bedside carried safely in your Nurse's Joey(TM).  You now have the ability to carry a potential decision support tool (pharmacological knowledge) to the bedside. You no longer have to wait for the hospital to upgrade its IT infrastructure or for your hospital managers to decide to roll out IT solutions. You can take charge of your professionalism and purchase your own pocket computer (palm pilot or pocket PC) and easy to use, affordable, available software tools such as MIMS. Register your interest in a special deal at info@nursesheart.com.
